I found a link-up (a place where bloggers connect with other bloggers in hopes that we'll get more followers, or at least visitors) today that is about one of my favorite things: Books! I have a "Books I'm Reading" page that I update at least weekly because I love to share what I'm reading. I'm also on Goodreads. If you're on there, friend me.

This book is a must-read for anyone considering a reunion with a birth parent or sibling, or child relinquished at birth.
2) What are your 3 favorite books of all time?
I have a lot of favorite books. Here are just three of them. One non-fiction, one biography, one fiction.
3) What is your "approach" upon entering a bookstore? Where do you immediately head after entering through the front door?
Um...I usually go to Barnes & Noble to escape my family for a little quiet time. I head straight for Starbucks. Then I sit there for about two hours reading, writing, praying, and meditating. When I feel "filled up" I venture to the biography section and then the humor section, so I can (unintentionally) feel bad about my attempts at a humor blog.

ReplyDeleteYes! I love all of her books. That series is my second favorite. It's so hard to pick favorites when there are so many good ones.
ReplyDeleteKate, I also read Julie's book and couldn't put it down either. What an amazing story and just couldn't believe how truly strong she was and still is. As for my favorite book, I have too many to choose from, but will tell you I love anything from Emily Giffin, Sophie Kinsella, The Trueblood Series and even The Help.

Man, I can't remember if I read Bridget Jone's Diary. If I did, it was years ago. Thanks for mentioning these. I'm going to revisit Bridget and put the Stranger book on my list. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI remember when I was much younger, I could always be found with my nose in a book. When I had kids, my reading kind of stopped. I didn't seem to have much time for it. We still have a good collection of books. That being said, I got a kindle for my birthday. Suddenly my love for reading has been sparked again. The last book I read was Me Again.... it is about a guy who wakes up from a 6 year comma. check it out. As for when I am in a book store - I always go to the Self Help section. I love learning new things! :)

ReplyDeleteYou must add all books by Charlaine Harris to your list. I have most of them, actually. Wish you lived closer to me, I'd drop them off right now. She is the author of the "True Blood" series which is actually called the Southern Vampire series that HBO ruined. She has several other series as well; the Harper Connelly series, the Aurora Teagarden series, the Lily Bard series and several non-series. They're all mysteries and I snarfed them all down in very short order. HIGHLY recommend them.
ReplyDeleteGreat review of Julie's book! I'm on Goodreads too so will definitely look for you there. I do have a lot of favorite books but the several that come to mind right now are Middlesex, any book by Abigail Thomas, The Time Travelers Wife, Still Alice, Room, and We Need To Talk About Kevin (which is very intense and upsetting but really well done). If I think of more, I'll let you know!

ReplyDeleteGreat review on Julie's book! It's fairly impossible to not read it in one sitting. The way that it was written was incredible, and I'd also highly recommend it to anyone. I'm currently reading - If Tomorrow Comes by Sidney Sheldon. It's gripping, intense, and packed with heart-wrenching decisions. I love it. In fact, I love any Sidney Sheldon book.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Blue Like Jazz, but from what I'm seeing in the comments, it looks like I'm going to have to read it! I'm also on the lookout for a classic novel, but I don't know of any that I would LOVE. I DID love "Pride & Prejudice", though!

ReplyDeleteWe have so much in common. :) I too escape to B & N for quiet time. And coffee. I read Wanted in a day as well - simply couldn't put it down! Unbroken is an amazing book (that took me awhile to get through!) I read humor on occasion too. I have so many favorite books and I couldn't possibly pick one, but for today I'll recommend Wintergarden by Kristen Hannah. She's one of my favorite author's to read to "escape."

ReplyDeleteKate - I have about seven books started at present, one for each room of the house. I even have two copies of one (Dollar Store Purchase) "Big Man" by Clarence Clemons that I keep one in my vehicle for "just in case" moments. I've been to Goodreads to sign up, but haven't had a chance to return there. Problem now is a double vision problem that I'm probably going to have to have an operation for pretty soon (according to one doctor) that hinders reading quite often. Interesting post!
ReplyDeleteCrap, that's rough about the double-vision. I hope if you have to have an operation that it's simple and effective. I guess there's always audio books, if nothing else. But, definitely not the same.
