I Suck at Cooking and I Suck at Computer (FTSF #10)

I tried to cook.......................

forget it. I can't even finish the sentence. I had an entire post written and at 8:22pm, 38 minutes before Finish The Sentence Friday was to go live, I accidentally deleted the entire post.

So, as far as cooking goes right now, I'm considering buying a deep-fryer and throwing my computer in it.  Actually, I just want to throw Blogger in it. Or maybe throw myself in it, since I'm the one that clicked the stupid wrong button...apparently.

I had some witty things to say about the goopey homemade granola bars I made yesterday and about how my culinary skills are a running joke in our house because I miss an ingredient or direction in 90% of new recipes - Crap, I really had some funny stuff in that post. Now you're left with this whiney garbage.

Well, at least I have the recipe I want to share because I saved it in a Word document.

This is a good one. I combined a couple different recipes together to make this totally new recipe. The witty stuff I had written in the deleted post said something like, "I think one of the recipes I started with was Creme Brûlée" or something like that - THAT TOTALLY MAKES NO SENSE NOW!!!

Anyway, the whole family loves it - except Sheehan, he doesn't like anything with vegetables...or fruit...or anything that isn't cheese or noodles.

So, have pity on me and pin it. I even learned how to put those little "pin it" buttons on. Or you can print it. I added a "print friendly" button at the bottom of all my posts that allows you to print what you want and remove all the junky words you don't - try it, you'll like it!

It's 8:54pm, this baby goes live in six minutes!

Tortilla Soup

4 cups Chicken Broth
3 cups cooked, shredded chicken
1 – 14.5 oz. can diced tomatoes (UNdrained)
1 – 14.5 oz. can kidney or black beans (drained)
1 cup bottled salsa
1 cup frozen whole-kernel corn
1 cup frozen chopped bell peppers
½ tablespoon chili powder
½ tablespoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon basil

For topping:
Shredded cheese
Plain Greek yogurt or sour cream
Tortilla chips (crushed)

Combine the first 11 ingredients in a large pot; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 12 minutes. Serve with toppings.

Oh, and here's a link to some of my favorite all-natural recipes that I blogged about before.

Next week's sentence to finish: I did something really stupid once, I...

I can finish this right now...deleted my entire post 38 minutes before it was scheduled to go live.

  1. Totally pinned this recipe and sounds delicious. Oh and thank you seriously for teaching me how to do the Pin It Button. Totally can't say that one enough!!! :)

  2. Did you try the "undo" button at the top? Or closing your window and reopening it? Sometimes I do that and if I didn't save a newer version most of it is still there...

  3. Yes, that's what got me in trouble in the first place. I typed control-z to undo a mistake I made and everything disappeared. I didn't know how to get it back, so I closed the document, without saving it, or so I thought, and when I opened it back up, it WAS ALL GONE!!! Omg. Whatever. I was able to get something up there before 9pm.

  4. My pleasure! Glad I was able to share something with you, since you're always doing stuff for me. :-)

I will laugh in honor of your hilarious lost post.
While the soup looks yummy, do you happen to have a creme brulee recipe? I really love creme brulee. Thanks for hosting!

Oh man that sounds SO frustrating (and exactly the kind of thing I'd do). Your alternative was perfectly cromulent and the soup sounds yummy :)

  7. Yum, that looks so good!

I too had a glitch where I lost an entire post earlier this week. I was typing away, thinking it was autosaving, only to find out the internet had cut out. And then my browser crashed. So yeah, I had the title saved and that was it. So freaking frustrating.

  8. Lol!! Well, even though you deleted your post, you did a heck of a job coming up with something in those few minutes before the deadline, AND after a long day! I don't think I would have been able to do that at that time of the night!

  9. may I join your fellow bloggers/bloggerinae in saying, 'aiyee!!'
that is such an exquisitely awful feeling, I totally agree... in and of itself, that is a topic to generate gigantic Posts. (I am trying to come up with a simile or at least an analogy for the experience... got nothin... cleverness interuptus, I guess).
    Good recovery, yo

I know some type their blogs in Word then copy them over. But that sounds like way to much effort. I can feel your pain. I once deleted a entire podcast and had to recreate it. It was kind of hard sounding spontaneous on the second go round.

  11. The funny thing thing is that I usually do type my rough drafts in Word and save them, but I didn't this time, except for the recipe itself. If I had to retype the recipe too, I probably would have cried. I know, first-world problem.

  12. Gah! It is so frustrating.

  13. I had to look up the word, cromulent. If pound the definition in Urban Dictionary. Nice use.

  14. I don't have a recipe for Creme Brûlée. I'm not sure if I've even ever had it. Hmm.

  15. I pinned your soup, which does sound yummy and hey, I'd say you're pretty talented, because you accomplished a post for this week's AND next week's FTSF, all in one post. I'd call that very efficient! :) (Oh and if it makes you feel better, I will probably NEVER figure out how to add a Pin It button)

Awww I wanted to have a tantrum for you. That has happened to me. I never do the re-write. I guess you had to. This was STILL funny, and I am pinning your soup to my Recipes I should try board. It has a million recipes in it I like to drool over. My recipes I have tried board is probably not even a 10th of all that I've pinned. This one sounds easy enough but I'm not very efficient in breaking down a recipe to see how many points it will cost me. #WeightWatchers

I still cannot believe that happened to you! And yes, now you have next week's post already done. Well, the "whiny garbage" post still made me laugh! And I totally pinned that recipe. Cause, you know, now I'm on Pinterest.

Nice job turning your "oh crap" moment into a post anyway! I usually write in Evernote and then cut and paste - now I'll make sure I always do that! I make that tortilla soup too except I add refried beans instead. Thanks for hosting!

  20. My own oh crap moment - that guest comment below is mine - forgot to log in first.
Will I ever get the hang of this? I suck at computers too.

  21. HI there, a fantastic post! Loved it! Everybody has said just about everything already, so I will just add that I always write on Word and then copy and paste. So far it's been good for me and I find it quite fast, actually. I'm not really good with the computer, so I don't take risks. Or maybe it's just my mathematical mind! Anyway, I'll be seeing you, so have a good day!

Sorry your other post got all mangled. But this was really interesting to read! Cooking...I've definitely had some mishaps, and I'll never live down the legendary "hash-lum" that was supposed to be hush puppies. Oops. Oh well. Still a great post! :D

  23. and that right there is another reason I switched to WP.. no chance of losing an entire post. The soup sounds amazing right now, even if it is just 10 am lol

  24. I have a question. Why don't you just write you blog in word then copy and paste. If you save what you write every few sentences you won't have a problem if you hit something wrong. ?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Chris HyeThymeCafe1:27 PM

Too bad you couldn't "undo" the delete. I usually have a similar problem at work. I'll be working in a huge Word document, get all the way to the end and Word will crash on me. Even when it does give me a recovery version, it's never right. VERY frustrating! :(

  26. You just crack me up!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Typically, I do. I don't know why I didn't this time. Usually, I'll write out my rough draft in Word, then copy and paste it to Blogger, then finalize it there. This is like the third time I've ever done that....and the first time I've had a post deleted prior to posting. I have had one get deleted after posting - still don't know how that happened.

I hate when I do something like that. Worse for me is when I am truly clever in a comment and then I go to login to whatever service...and the comment goes away. I will leave it to you to decide if that happened here....

Also, you might try Google Docs. Write your post and that sucker has no "save" so you can't lose it. Then you can paste it into Blogger and clean it up. You might also try writing a little less close to your self-imposed deadline, lol!

  30. I've accidentally deleted my drafts of posts before as well! It makes me sick to my stomach, as those are usually the posts that are pure comedic genius. (Or at least that's what I tell myself.)
I'm sorry your post was deleted, but I'd say you did just fine with improvising on the post. However, based upon what I've read here, I would suggest limiting the improvising to blogs...not cooking. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh no! That really sucks about you deleting the post. Bummer. But this one is awesome, too! And the soup looks excellently yummy. I'm pretty much a horrible cook all around. I do make a mean sandwich though. Thanks for hosting!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Aw man! I would've loved to see that crème brûlée joke in all it's glory! Oh well, that soup looks delicious none the less.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ha ha! I actually had the post scheduled at least six hours ahead, then went in to change a little something and deleted the whole thing instead. Nice.

Aw no! I just looked it up in U.D. and that's not what I meant! Dictionary.com for the win - the straightforward sense means 'fine'.

  35. Now, I know this isn't wanted, but let me share a little something with you ... I write all my posts in Microsoft Word and then copy and paste them to Blogger, and then add the pictures and such. I also use the auto save there, to ensure if I screw up, they'll be somewhat safe. With the way my brain operates, I could never write it again, so why take chances? Just a thought. My wife likes your take on the soup, and is talking about trying it. You're either going to have a fan here, or be cussed at. lol Good post!
